Got A Question?

CAN CONCRETE POSTS GET CONCRETE CANCER?

Concrete cancer is very common in water troughs and in some other farm products but concrete cancer will not occur in fence posts from Concrete Posts and Pickets.

Why is this so?

Concrete cancer occurs when normal lime based concrete is poured into a mould, along with standard rusty reo bar that is used for reinforcing, so the product stays strong and in shape. In these situations the concrete is loose as a result of being just poured in.

  • With our concrete posts we do not use lime which rusts steel.

  • The steel we use is high carbon high tensile and as such it does not rust very easily. Most farmers know that drill bits don’t rust much, one of the reasons for this is because of the high carbon content in drill bit steel.

  • Because our posts are pre-stressed the concrete is very tight and virtually water proof.

The combination of tight concrete, no lime to cause rust, and high carbon steel, means our posts do not get concrete cancer. This end result is designed and engineered into our posts. This makes them a serious long term fencing solution

CAN BARBED WIRE TIPS BE DAMAGED WHEN PULLING THROUGH THE POSTS?

During manufacturing, the rods which are used to make the holes are turned every 15 minutes for the first few hours.

This turning action causes the inside of the holes to soap up on the surface, and as such it is less abrasive than the rest of the concrete in the body of the post.

As the wire is pulled through the holes the concrete surface provides about the same resistance to the barbs as does a wooden post hole.

WILL A CONCRETE POST BREAK IF A BEAST LEANS ON IT?

Recently Concrete posts and Pickets had our concrete posts tested at a Nata approved testing facility.

During this strength testing program we were able to prove that a {herd post} could withstand 1500 kg of weight being applied at mid post height out of the ground before it would crack at ground level. This is substantially more than any beast will push as they forage for greener pasture. It also is substantially more than a kangaroo or a large pig will exert if they are travelling at speed into a fence.

It is rare to see a pre-stressed concrete post break because of animal impact.

CAN WIRE RUST AT THE POINT WHERE IT PASSES THROUGH A CONCRETE POST?

No. Posts from Concrete Posts and Pickets do not cause rust to the wire as we do not use lime in our concrete mix, and the wire is threaded after the fence is erected.

WHERE DO YOU DELIVER TO?

Concrete Posts and Pickets delivers posts Australia wide from our manufacturing plant in Coraki, NSW. You can also buy concrete posts from one of our many stockists.
